Optoma Pico PK101

by pico-admin on June 17, 2009

Optoma is one of the largest projector companies in the world, and a front runner in the Pico projector race. So today I wanted to study up on the PK101, which is the current model release from Optoma.

The PK101 is sleek and small, about the size of a cell phone and can easily fit in your pocket. It can be hooked up to your cell phone, your Ipod, etc and can display pictures or video up to 60 inches.

The brightness isn’t where it needs to be yet, but that’s the case of all pico projectors at this faze of their development. However, Optoma is boasting an awesome 20,000 hour lamp life, which comes out to over 18 years if you use the projector 3 hours per day. Pretty darn impressive.

I don’t own an Optoma yet, so I haven’t been able to review it first hand. Maybe one of their reps will read our post here and send us one to look over. (hint hint….)

Pretty sweet, watching that spongebob from your Ipod in some office waiting room on the wall.

Here’s the rundown of the PK101 from the Optoma website:

The latest LED technology, Optoma’s projector expertise and Texas Instruments tried and trusted DLP® chip technology, (used in millions of business and home cinema projectors the world over), come together to produce astonishing image quality from such a small projector. There’s no need to worry about replacing the lamp either – the Pico has a lamp-life of an astonishing twenty thousand hours: enough for more than eighteen years of life, even if you use the projector three hours a day, every single day of the year. We think once you’ve seen the Optoma Pico you’ll agree that it sets the standard in pocket projectors.

Anyway, you can get the Optoma PK101 at BestBuy for a little under three hundred dollars. As for me, I’m going to wait on a higher resolution and a few more lumens of brightness before I actually commit to a projector of my own.
