AAXA M1 Micro Projector is Brighter
When is a pico-projector not quite a pico-projector? Why, when it’s a micro-projector of course. Profligate pico producer AAXA have obviously decided that their latest model, the AAXA M1, isn’t quite small enough to fit into the “tiny” category, but what you lose in pocketability you gain in specifications. The M1 Micro-Projector has a native SVGA 800 x 600 resolution, 66 lumen brightness from its LED lighting, and a handy remote control.
Two models will be on offer, each capable of projecting up to a 100-inch picture. The entry-level M1 Standard gets a 3.5mm composite video input (complete with a suitable adapter cable), while the M1 Plus adds a 1280 x 960 VGA input (though you’ll obviously only get 800 x 600 max output); both also have 3.5mm headphone jacks and a microUSB port. Eventually, AAXA say, you’ll be able to use that USB connection to hook up a computer, though right now they’re not providing the necessary drivers.
Otherwise there’s 1GB of onboard storage and an SD card reader, integrated media player app and stereo 1W speakers; the whole thing measures 112 x 105 x 46 mm. Each model is available for preorder now, priced at $299 for the AAXA M1 Standard and $359 for the AAXA M1 Plus. They’ll ship on December 21st and January 21st respectively.

Pico Projector: Mighty Micros That Rule The World
The world of micro has arrived in full force with the Pico Projector. These tiny buddies will fit in well with your handheld view of the world, right alongside your laptop, PDA, cell phone, laser light pen, and monogrammed hanky.
In January of this year, Fast Company highlighted 10 Pico Projectors worth considering if you are looking to add new technologies to your micro collection. Here are the Big 10:
- Cinemin Swivel from WowWee Technologies
- Samsung MBP200
- BUGprojector
- Acer K10 Pico Projector
- Optoma Pico PK-101
- Toshiba TDP-F10U Mobile LED Projector
- Cinemin Stick from WowWee Technologies
- Dell M109S
- Cinemin Station from WowWee Technologies
- BenQ GP1
First, I’d just like to say I’m super excited to see so many name brands in the playing field. You can expect a shakeout as the Pico Projector grows in popularity. It’s typical to find a lot of brands in the beginning of a new technological phase, but as tech products grow in popularity and the competition grows stiffer it’s not uncommon to see some fall out of favor with consumers.
It’s interesting to see WowWee Technologies in there with three different products in the top 10. Not unheard of, but it’s cool nonetheless.
Personally, I’m excited about the possibilities for Pico Projectors in the mobile market so to see Toshiba in there with its own brand of LED Pico Projector is quite exciting. And the Cinemin Swivel from WowWee Technologies is a very affordable add-on for the iPhone. The fact that the iPhone has a compatible Pico is itself a tribute to this new technology.
Currently, the options are pretty good for carrying a portable projector in your pocket and if you’re looking for something that looks cool, feels light, and is capable of projecting images at your next board meeting, a Pico Projector is just your style of technology. Go for it.

From what I can tell, you can hook this pico up to your video camera, your Ipod, your Iphone, your computer, your netbook, your playstation, your nintendo DS, and just about any multimedia device out there. It looks like they have all the hookups and adapters figured out. If so, this little pico projector looks like it rocks.
So go out and order one will somebody? I’d like to get a decent review of the AAXA P1 pico projector as soon as possible. If you have one and have experience using it, please send us your review via our contact form.
Micro Projector News
Yup, it’s old stuff, but it’s good to get some Pico background from time to time. This is one of the first news reports about Microvision and how the pico projector came into being…
$60 if built into a cell phone, that was the initial prediction. High definition was still a fantasy when this report was written, though it’s looking much better in today’s pico projector market.
Still wondering when they are going to hit the market here in Mexico. There’s nothing on either the Telcel or the Movistar website talking about any of their phones having a pico projector included, anytime in the near future.
We’ll see. I’m very excited about the possibilities.
Pico Projector Phone from Samsung
This is a pretty cool Youtube video about a phone put out in Korea from Samsung. This is TI DLP’s first working pico projector embedded in a working phone, according to the description on the video page.
The phone features a built in Pico Projector, with stereo sound speakers. You can download content via a USB connection and it can play pictures, movies, video clips, etc. You can beam out any attachment from your emails and any image. Making sharing your multimedia from your phone a snap.
I’m looking for more phones that have built in pico projectors, so if you have some model numbers and some videos or tutorials you would like to share about them, please send them into us.
Ciao till next time!
